Del Amo Behavioral Health System sits on Camino del Sol in Torrance, and it is where the South Bay sends teenagers who are in trouble. In 2021 a thirteen-year-old was given another patient's medication and then sexually assaulted on the adolescent unit by two other patients, and nobody told her mother until the day she went home. State inspectors had written the hospital up before for exactly that: not reporting. If you were a patient there, or your child was, this is about you.

• It was another patient, not a staff member. The case already on file is exactly that. A locked adolescent unit exists to keep the kids on it safe from each other; when it doesn't, that is on the hospital.
• The hospital knew and your family was never told. That is the 2021 complaint in one sentence, and the state fined Del Amo for the same thing, not telling, as recently as New Year's Eve 2025.
• You were an adult patient. The adolescent unit is where the record is loudest, but the same building, the same company, the same reporting problem.
• It was years ago. California's deadline for anyone abused as a minor runs to age 40, or five years from the day you understood what it did to you.
• You were there in 2024 or later. For that there is no deadline at all.
• You're a parent whose kid came home different and never said why. Reach out anyway.

Who can be held responsible in a Del Amo Behavioral Health lawsuit

The hospital, and the company that owns it. A patient who hurts another patient answers for himself, if he can answer at all; a hospital that put a drugged thirteen-year-old within reach of him, and then kept it from her mother, answers for what it built. Del Amo belongs to Universal Health Services, the largest psychiatric hospital chain in the country, and the same pattern of not reporting shows up at its other hospitals. That is why the case is against the company, not only the building.

A staff member who did it, if that is your story, is a defendant too. And in California, where a cover-up is proven, a jury can award three times the damages. That is written into the statute for childhood cases.
